1989 — Present (20 years )
The Dutch Comic House agency has remained a faithful intermediary for many years now, representing my work since I started as a freelance professional in 1989.
(Public Company; 11-50 employees; Online Media industry)
December 2000 — April 2001 (5 months)
Project-based freelance employment on location to co-realize the production of an innovative interactive animated television series called Tattletoons. In 2001 the series won an EMMA multimedia award in Cannes and was exposed in Time Magazine as a pioneering project in the field of interactive television.
(Public Company; 1-10 employees; Design industry)
August 1999 — June 2000 (11 months)
My last attempt to take shelter under the safe payroll umbrella of a company. Guided two apprentice designers and myself through a small year of several multimedia design projects, after which I finally knew for sure that I wanted to stay an independent professional once and for all.
(Computer Software industry)
January 1998 — November 1998 (11 months)
Set up the Jaytown production division for the Spin multimedia company, together with a partner. Created several multimedia software products and games for the advertisement industry during that period. Resigned to return to the varied world of freelancing. Changed my one-man company name into Seven's Heaven for a fresh start.
(Computer Games industry)
October 1995 — July 1997 (1 year 10 months)
During this period I ran a semi-autonomous computer games creation division, together with a partner. We created a commercial Microsoft Windows game named Moon Child, published by Valkieser Publishing. The game became nominated for an EMMA multimedia award in Cannes. After the completion of Moon Child I left Valkieser New Media because of sombre prospects for the company at that time.
(Design industry)
July 1989 — October 1995 (6 years 4 months)
My initial company as a freelance computer graphics creator. Projects included co-creating 10 episodes of the animated television series 'Mannetje & Mannetje' for VPRO television at the Dutch Comic House studio.
During this period I also co-created a number of internationally published computer games and two music editors. The titles, in chronological order:
1: Sidmon (music editor, 1989),
2: Venomwing (shoot-'em-up game, 1990),
3: Digital Mugician (sequel to Sidmon, 1990),
4: Hoi (platform game, 1992),
5: Cognition (puzzle game, 1993),
6: Clockwiser (puzzle game, 1994).
7: Moon Child (platform game, initial Amiga version in 1995. The game was later reinitiated for Valkieser New Media).
In early 1993 I co-created the first and second demonstration in the world for the new generation of Amiga computers, before Commodore's official hardware guides were published. The demos were titled Planet Groove and Mindwarp, forming part 1 and 2 of the Hoi sAGA demo trilogy.
(Publishing industry)
August 1989 — September 1989 (2 months)
Worked at Divo Publishing as an editor and author for Amiga Magazine. Resigned soon after an offer from the Dutch Comic House agency I couldn't refuse.
Creation of computer animation and illustration for television, game and multimedia projects 1989 — 1992
Learned a lot from several experienced illustration and animation professionals during this very inspiring period.
Diploma gained , English, Dutch, German, Economy I, Economy II, History , 1982 — 1989
I was not much of a school-minded guy and loved self-teaching in the real world much more than being taught in a classroom. During the last years of college I was already repeatedly traveling to London in weekends to meet potential publishers for our computer games.
