Freelance Technology Writer, Teacher
Greater Denver Area
I started literally in the mail room at the magazine PC World in 1984, where I learned how to troubleshoot and repair those newfangled personal computers when I wasn't sorting letters or stocking supplies. I managed to move into editorial, and after a brief stint as a staff editor, went freelance. I've written for more than a dozen publications, but my main gig for almost 20 years has been as a regular contributor to PC World's news, feature, and how-to sections. In 2008, I began writing regularly for Brian Livingston's Windows Secrets newsletter, for which I am also a Contributing Editor.
Technology and tech publications are constantly evolving, but I'm always keen to report on how people can use computers and the Internet wisely, and avoid being locked into proprietary technologies.
News and feature writing, reporting and research, interviewing, book and magazine editing. Fluent in Spanish, semi-fluent in German.

I taught a daily freshman Spanish course both semesters of the 2007-2008, and 2008-2009 school years at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and received training and professional development related to communicative language teaching. I love languages and teaching, and find that the social interaction of the classroom balances the isolation that comes with freelance writing.
