Privately Held; 201-500 employees; Insurance industry

So the title is a bit deceiving. I wear many hats at my current company. Program manager, architect, QA support, Production support... I do manage people but my main job is to get business objectives realized no matter what that entails. From the technical side we've been replacing a lot of legacy processes with an SOA architecture for the past 2 or so years. All of our projects and programs have gone out on time with very aggressive timelines. I am very business focused and the business drives the work we do. I have had teams from 3 to 21 under my direct supervision but my goal has always been to accomplish what the business needs. If that means reverse engineering a system or writing our own specs so be it. In a fast changing environment you can't always get a perfect system but you can plan your trajectory to get it there in the future.

At Magenic I did it all. I was often thrust into hard problems and had to quickly devise a strategy and implement it.. usually on my own. I did a complete port to wince from windows including rewriting a legacy communications protocol. Fixed a Microsoft marble (precursor to biz talk) problem for a major online bank. Created a warehouse mgt. solution for a major non-profit in Atl. Helped a major chip maker in the valley find a memory leak in their industrial machinery (2M loc+).

This might have been my best job ever. I was hired to create the Internet security scanner. This was the first ever commercial pen test software on the market. We won a PC Mag editors choice 8 mos. later and almost got booted from interop after we 'mistakenly' crashed the Sun booth. After that I went on to head up RealSecure which was the first commercial intrusion detection software on the market. Wrote a lot of custom multi-threaded ui controls that allowed for a big stream of data to be visualized.. again there was nothing on the market to model off of. From there I architected (and implemented) a cross platform management solution for all the various ISS products.
