Research & Policy Manager at Marin Institute
San Francisco Bay Area
Sarah's recent research at Marin Institute includes state efforts to increase alcohol taxes and fees, reclassify alcopops correctly, and regulate out-of-home advertising; the wine industry’s political influence in California; and Big Alcohol’s campaign contributions and lobbying expenditures.
A lifelong public health activist, she has prompted institutional refusal of Big Alcohol athletics sponsorship using analysis of local alcohol advertising; trained local and national audiences to effectively organize, achieve and sustain alcohol policy change; and debated John McCardell regarding the effectiveness of the 21-minimum legal drinking age.
Previously Sarah developed, organized, and led research, program, and coalition initiatives to promote health and reduce harm in college student populations. She directed prevention services at Syracuse University (2007-2008), health promotion & services at the University of San Francisco (2004-2007), taught classes and directed health enhancement at The University of Montana--Missoula (1999-2004).
