"Coach Sam" is what we call him. Dr. Sam Douglass has been a Church Planter for 20 years. His doctorate (1988) was Church Growth and entitled "A Strategy for Merging Diverse Ethnic Congregations to Minister in Cross-Cultural Mission Projects". The doctorate was done in Leon, Guanajato, Mexico with 11 church plants. However, the term "church plant" had not been coined in the late 1980's. In those days it was "starting a mission". In 1988, Dr. Douglass became founding pastor of Yorktown Baptist Church, Corpus Christi, Tx. The core group began meeting in homes followed by meeting in Kaffee Middle School for 2+ years prior to building their first building. Thirteen years later it had grown to over 1000, owned 5 buildings, 26 acres of land and had started Yorktown Christian Academy.
While at YBC it was his privilege to assist Bil Cornelius in planting what is now Bay Area Fellowship. Since 2002, he has planted Crosspoint Fellowship, Greenville, Tx; Gateway Fellowship, Royse City, Tx and The Gathering, Ft. Worth, Tx. SInce 2005, he has worked with various groups/churches to help with church planting endeavors. In 2006, he became Lead Pastor of TEAM CHURCH in Ft. Worth, Tx where he was/is directly involved with 17 new church plants in various stages of church growth and development. He now is the Executive Director of Just Coach Me (www.justcoachme.org) He has been speaker, teacher, adjunct professor, mentor and spokesperson for the church planting movement. Globally he has been involved in the Philippines, Congo, Kazhastan, Romania, Mexico, Nicaragua, Canada and numerous states throughtout the U.S.
He is willing to go anywhere, anytime, anyplace. "Have need?....Will Travel" He is accessable via toll free number, email, etc. He is an excellent communcator whether it is one-on-on or before thousands. He connects wtih all ages and situations. His flexability and creativity are the keys necessary for unlocking challenges and opportunities.
Assessing, mentoring, coaching, launch team development, site determination, prospectus/proposal assistance, funding, buildling and land acquisition, denominational relationships and liasons, sponsor church training, support and funding, staff recruiting and development, breaking growth barrier strategies, think tanks, conflict resolution, church discipline issues, church planter and wives training/support, and being a "hands on" resource with a fresh set of eyes and ear for the church planter.

Yorktown Baptist Church was a church plant out of FIrst Baptist Church, Corpus Christi. It began in homes and then went to Kaffee Middle School. Two years later they entered their first bulidng. During the 13 years under Dr. Douglass's leadership the church grew to over 1000 members while at the same time Yorktown Christian Academy was being established.
It was only after the tragic death of his wife in an automobile accident that he became open to leaving the church. During his tenure as Senior Pastor the church not only grew expontientally along with the school, but they were instrumental in helping Bil Cornelius with the planting of Bay Area Fellowship - a church planted in 1998 and now averaging over 7,000 in attendance.
Church planting and overseas mission projects have been a vital part of what Dr. Douglass does best. He has done consultating in the Democratic Rep. of the Congo, Kazhastan, Romania, Philippines, Canada and did his doctoarate in Leon, Guanajato, Mexico.
