Freelance media provider and OHS adviser

For twenty years I have been active in the area of occupational health and safety, culminating in running my own OHS consultancy for almost ten years.
Most recently I have had an opinion piece published by Business Spectator and Crikey.com has reused one of my blog articles on the Beaconsfield Mine rockfall of 2006.
An article for National Safety magazine was published in its May 2009 about the application of insurance policies to cover fines and penalties resulting from OHS prosecutions
Over time the demand for my company's services have changed from demands for safety consulting to safety writing and commentary. To the extent that I was interviewed by 3CR on the new OHS laws in Australia in 2009 - http://tinyurl.com.au/x.php?1t9q
For many years, I published the Safety At Work magazine, a regular online publication for safety professionals, through subscription, that was distributed globally.
From this developed a weekly OHS bulletin for Australian safety professionals. The bulletin has led to a similar product being produced for members of the Safety Institute of Australia since 2005.
In 2005 I wrote the Editorial for The Journal of Occupational Health and Safety Australia and New Zealand - "A culture of terror: the risks of occupational violence" was provided to the December 2005.
I contributed substantially to the 1st edition of the WorkSafe Victoria publication - Manual Handling in the Food Industry, and provided literary support to Ballarat's Farm Safety Training Centre in writing the WorkSafe guidance "Dairy Safety - A Practical Guide".
In late-2008 I began contributing regularly to the Employment Law Bulletin, and RTWMatters, a networking web-service for Return-To-Work Coordinators.
In January 2009 I was accepted as a correspondent for LabourStart- an online labour bulletin service.

The Victorian Government established an advisory/enforcement team called the Hazardous Chemicals Assessment Team. This coordinated inspectors from a range of agencies, emergency services and local government for "snap" inspections of workplace storing dangerous goods.
HCAT also undertook a detailed review of all legislation that involved hazardous substances and dangerous goods. My task was administrative support for the team and legislative review.
The unit changed its focus later in my tenure as the Government requested a report on potential sites for the relocation of the Coode Island chemical storage area. The report was sent to Cabinet only a couple of days before Coode Island exploded. The government then established a formal review into moving Coode Island. There was a considerable overlap at this time between the Coode Island Review Panel and HCAT. I provided research support to HCAT and, indirectly, the Coode Island Review Panel.
