Main domain expertise: Architecture.
Other domains: Information Technology, Knowledge Management, Artificial Intelligence
Practice of architecture requires both abstract thinking and delivery on the ground. Hence I got involved in both research along with realization of architecture projects. I did original research in the field of architecture representation systems and discovered some mathematical principles. These were incorporated into a software (TAD Designer Lite) that was written in Prolog
My software has proved itself in the design of architecture; especially in the early design stages. I have presented my work in international peer-reviewed conferences and my work has been cited by other researchers. My work was utilized by IIT Bombay for two of their research projects in the area of energy calculations in buildings.
The cross-over of domain expertise happened subsequently: Today I have experience and knowledge in many areas relating to both architecture and computing. I own original intellectual property in the area of architecture representation systems, music, messaging, etc. My tutorials for Visual Prolog are quite popular. See http://www.visual-prolog.com/vip70/Tutorial/
I can deliver focused solutions to complicated problems; especially solutions to those problems that straddle the fields of architecture, computing and knowledge management. I am looking for opportunities where some of my original intellectual properties in the areas of my expertise can be taken ahead.

May 2009 — Present (7 months)
Use my knowledge on knowledge-building (epistemology), artificial intelligence, information technology and computer languages to develop abstractions and applications based on those abstractions to innovate in the field of education. These include automated planning system, course material development systems, etc.

Navi Mumbai Centre of the Indian Institute of Architects is a small, yet important part of IIA. Navi Mumbai is probably one of the largest development work going on in the world, and the architects here are involved with much of it. As a chairperson, I was instrumental in organizing multi-disciplinary events where we got people from different fields to talk to architects and students just so that we can remove the blinkers around our eyes. We got an eminent surgeon, a famous movie director, a senior person from the finance sector and several others to talk to us.

Sabu Francis & Associates is a unique architectural office: We handle architectural knowledge from a very basic level upwards. Some of that energy results in computer software and some other results in architecture of the bricks 'n mortar variety

Conceptualizing and designing architectural projects of all types. Was also directly involved in setting up of systems and actively training all my staff. A few of my staff branched out separately to start successful careers of their own.

September 2005 — April 2007 (1 year 8 months)
Taught architectural design, climatology, environment behaviour and generally had loads of fun with the students. Co-founded with some students; the Music Liberation Union, a music appreciation society that promotes original compositions, when teaching in this college (www.musicliberationunion.com)

March 1990 — March 1998 (8 years 1 month)
Learnt how to motivate and inspire students at the threshold of their adolescence. This was the phase where I honed my writing, teaching and even learning skills. Wrote several articles in industry related magazines

August 1985 — March 1987 (1 year 8 months)
I was at Hafeez's office when it was a seminal organization. It was good fun working at his office, even though the design sense of this office may seem controversial to some. I learnt a lot here, especially how to work with all kinds of people and how to deal with all kinds of 'fire-fighting' found in a busy architect's office. I helped set up systems in this office for their working-drawings, etc. When I left Hafeez, I was requested to continue on a few of his projects as an external associate consultant.
