Previously, Richard led one of three BBC future media divisions as Controller Future Media, A&M and Mobile. In this role he is responsible for the strategic, editorial and technical delivery of its mobile products and services (including the award winning iPlayer) as well as a portfolio of pan-BBC product groups. He also oversaw its Audio and Music content on digital platforms including more than 50 regional and national radio stations. He was promoted to this role after leading an overhaul of the BBC's Internet, mobile, IPTV and iPlayer services (with a combined audience of 50+ million UU's). Managing 180+ people, he provided thought leadership, strategy across the BBC's Future Media & Technology audience facing products and services.

Richard has founded or co-founded seven firms in his diverse entrepreneurial career including Razorfish LA and Schematic, an Adweek top 10 interactive agency where he served as President and Vice Chairman before its 2007 acquisition by WPP. Richard is a frequent public speaker on the impact of innovation and digital products and services in the technology, media & entertainment sectors.     Richard was promoted in November to become one of three divisional heads for Future Media at the BBC reporting to the Director of FM&T, (a BBC board member) and oversees a portfolio of pan-BBC digital services & product groups. His remit includes all BBC mobile propositions (including the award winning mobile service - one of the most popular in the world), mobile and radio versions of iPlayer. He is also responsible for a portfolio of product groups, enabling technologies and services in the BBC's future media business including all of those related to the BBC's radio (60% of the UK radio output) and music offerings. Additionally, he manages the RAD (Rapid Application Development) team which feeds into and inspires new multimedia products and services for audiences of all BBC content divisions and services. Richard sits on several organizational boards of BBC Online, the A&M group board, as well as the BBC’s Olympic steering group.

    His successes at the BBC include on-demand service iPlayer and iPlayer on Mobile, the acclaimed bbc.co.uk and mobile homepages and its overall service re-design. Richard serves on several boards including the Future Media Operations Board, BBC Online board, Audio & Music group board and it's 2012 Olympic steering group.
