Russell Dyas’s Summary

I have worked in education since leaving college and I have also worked as a consultant. I have worked in various settings from colleges and youth centres to schools.

I am recognised as a leading public commentator on ICT Support in education. I have gained a professional reputation from being a Manager at EduGeek.net - the leading website for ICT support staff in education. I have negotiated several opportunities for EduGeek.net to work with organisations and to improve the working life of our members and ICT Support Staff.

I have long been a public supporter of RM PLC, and feel that the software that RM provides is useful and correct for some educational establishments. During my work with Limehurst High School, I have negotiated us first becoming an RM Partnership School and then becoming an RM Pioneer School. I have also worked with RM, providing them with the customer’s views on such things as RM product design to the RM Customer Community, and I have been an Moderator on the RM Customer Forums. I was also part of the panel which was involved in designing of the new version of their Community Connect branded product.

Working in education often provides an unusual approach to networks and network security (education networks are among the most secure networks due to the nature of education) and also the unusually large number of users - often going into the 1000+ range.

Also, I have been a beta tester for companies such as the BBC, McAfee, Symantec, AOL, RM and Microsoft.

EduGeek.net started as a peer-to-peer support group in June 2005. Since then, we have become a well-recognised group for ICT Support staff in education. It may seem a bit of cliché, but we represent people working in ICT support in education as their voice and also to let other groups know what is happening on the front line.
My role now encompasses all aspects of the site. Myself, and other managers, work with a team of 13 staff.

    - I have organised several national conferences for ICT Support staff.
    - I have organised several workshop-training days.
    - I have overseen a major period of change in the organisation: from being a community forum to being a national organisation.
    - I work with many different external organisations to share concerns, and to make sure that the needs of the ICT support staff in the UK are meet.
