Ruddy Verbinnen’s Summary

Ruddy Verbinnen, MSc, PhD, joined the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in 1991.
Since the VUB started the Academic Career Consultancy in 2005, Ruddy is guiding students, working on educational policy and on mobility.

On the international level he is :
- member of the ECTS Medicine Association (ECTS MA).
- involved in the LLP Erasmus Thematic Network MEDINE (medical education in Europe grant 2004-2007)
- member of the MEDINE 2 Thematic Network (Medical Education in Europe).
- member of the Dutch-Belgian Services in Medical Sciences International (DMW-INT).
- involved in research on the implementation of ECTS in European Medical Schools.
- member of the executive comittee of the LLP Erasmus Multilateral Project PHARMINE (pharmaceutical education in Europe) granted by the EC.
- the European Association of Faculties of Pharmacy (EAFP).

On the national he is a member of :
- Curriculum Working Group on Medicine of the Flemish Interuniversitary Council (VLIR)
- interuniversity working group on Learning Outcomes in Medical Education.

He is author of several publications on learning outcomes, flexibility and mobility in higher education.

Previous to this he held a number of positions in higher education at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the VUB, the Erasmus Hogeschool Brussel and the Hogeschool Universiteit Brussel (teaching Scientific Methodology -quantitative and qualitative research-, Sociology and the organization of Palliative Care) and research from 1991 to late 2004 (research areas Medicalization, Palliative Care, Quality of Life, Health Technology Assessment, Prevention of Cancer).

As a Master in Sociology-Social Sciences of the VUB he spent his early career as a scientific staff member of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy. Since 2004 he holds the Doctoral Education degree (magna cum laude) and a PhD in Health Sciences on Medicalization in Palliative Care (2005) both at the VUB.

Ruddy Verbinnen’s Specialties:

His interests go to the implementation of the Lifelong Learning Project and the Bologna Process on the institutional and departemental level, s.a. ECTS, recognition of qualifications (APL, APEL), learning outcomes, curriculum reform and mobility, Tuning and Dir 2005/36/EC and the European Qualification Framework (EQF).
But also :
- organisation of Palliative Care in Belgium
- (Linking) Quantitative and qualitative research methodology
