Mike Rouse’s Summary
I have been entreprenuerial since age 17 and have started a number of ventures, the most recent and most successful of which is MessageSpace Creative Limited, a provider of technical and creative solutions with a political specialism.
My goal in business is to transform the way politicians engage with the public over the internet. There are useful lessons from the US-model, although it is not always directly compatible with the UK's different style of politics. I believe that politicians need to develop a more business-like approach to their web presence. This is something they already do with the day-to-day running of their offices, yet their website is often a simple online business card when it can actually do so much to help them and their constituents.
Another area of interest is online video and more specifically IPTV. I played a key role in setting up the UK's first internet-based broadcaster and have gleaned a lot of useful experience and skills in this market. I am building relationships with online video sites like YouTube, DailyMotion, and Mogulus to help bring online video to the world of politics and beyond. I appear on Sky News from time to time as a pundit for online video and new media stories.
