Rosario Barbera’s Summary

Last September, I completed with honors my Masters degree in “Cinema and Media Engineering” at the Polytechnic University of Turin.
In September 2006 I graduated with honours in my Bachelor of Science - Cinema and Media Engineering.
Typical fields for my professional profile are production, management, organization, technical care, both in private or public bodies and as a free lance.
I know the most important features of systems and means of communication: cinema, television, internet, new media and their applications in the entertainment field.

Besides that, I've always been dedicated to creating and managing the production of motion pictures. I've been production manager for short movies and production assistant for italian and international feature films.
Some of those are:

- Peter Greenaway's "Peopling the Palaces", written and directed by the welsh director;
- "L'ultimo Crodino" which is an italian feature film;
- "The shadow of darkness" a documentary shot in Los Angeles about director David Lynch's perspective on the city of LA.

The project is called "One Day On Earth" and it's about the diversity, conflict, tragedy and triumph that can occur in one 24-hour period on the whole planet. It is a multi-platform participatory media project, with a flagship 120 -minute documentary to be released theatrically.

Specific aims are defined referring to the professionals nowadays required by the market in media world. A cinema and media engineer combines a basic engineering knowledge with and media knowledge. In the media world, the digital technology has modified production and market; especially changes in media provider organization and market have been very important.

A graduate in Cinema and Media Engineering combines engineering knowledge and the knowledge of Information & Communication Technologies with cultural and aesthetic ones.
This curriculum gives the skills to work in planning, production, managing and maintenance of communication systems (i.e. mass media, cinema, television, multimedia: it is different to have competences on a specific means of communication and to know media in their institutional relations) and of information systems (i.e. internet, computer networks, etc.), in managing information and communication systems, both in industrial production and in the services' field.
The cinema and media engineer knows the most important features of systems and means of communication: cinema, television, internet, new media and their applications in the entertainment field. The acquired skills give him/her the possiblity to work in promotion, selling and technical care fields.

Activities and Societies:

I year - Beyond the basic engineering topics, evolution of media; integration between new and old media

II year - The engineering topics focus on digital technologies, on information transfer, on image processing and on applied physics, acoustics, colorimetry; media economy, multimedial publishing and design

III year - The topics are a combination of different disciplines: use of different media, virtual reality and computer networks; the publicity market and its language, law, copyright
