GOP Congressman
Houston, Texas Area
After serving in the US Air Force as a flight surgeon, I started an Ob/Gyn practice in Brazoria County, Texas and have since delivered over 4,000 babies. I decided to enter politics when President Nixon broke the last link between the dollar and gold, thus starting the inflation that continues to destroy the value of the dollar and undermine the earnings of all Americans.
I have served ten terms in Congress and have never wavered from my commitment to the Constitution and the principles of a free society. In 1976, I was one of four sitting GOP Congressmen to endorse the upstart Ronald Reagan in the Republican primaries. But I also spoke out against the unprecedented deficits incurred by Reagan's administration.
For my relentless opposition to unconstitutional legislation, I have been called:
• "Dr. No"
• The "Taxpayers' Best Friend" by the the National Taxpayers Union
• The "one exception to the Gang of 535" on Capitol Hill by former Treasury Secretary William Simon.
I have worked tirelessly for limited constitutional government, individual rights, low taxes, free markets, a peaceful foreign policy and sound monetary policies. I am running for President as a Republican to bring the Grand Old Party back to its roots as the party of the 1994 Revolution, President Reagan, Sen. Goldwater and Sen. Taft.

In my decade of service on this Committee, I have led oversight of the Federal Reserve and U.S. monetary policy. I have consistently advocated a return to sound money by tying the dollar's value to gold and silver. For example, read http://www.house.gov/paul/congrec/congrec2006/cr021506.htm

1968 — Present (40 years)
Over nearly four decades of medical practice in Brazoria County, Texas, I have delivered more than 4,000 babies. In 2001, I was one of only eight doctors in the House (including dentists).
Because I do not believe government should control the doctor/patient relationship, I have never accepted Medicare and Medicaid payments as a physician. Instead, I worked for free or arranged discounted or custom-payment plans for needy patients. In short, "I just took care of them."

January 1979 — January 1985 (6 years 1 month)
During my three terms representing Texas's 22nd district, I:
• Conceived of, developed and led the legislative effort to create the U.S. Gold Commission.
• Co-authored the Minority Report of the Gold Commission advocating a return to sound money.
• Opposed President Carter's proposal to reinstate the draft.
• Opposed the so-called "deregulation" of banking rules that allowed for the savings and loan crisis of the 1980s.
I returned to full-time medical practice in 1985 and said in my farewell address to the House: "Special interests have replaced the concern that the Founders had for general welfare. Vote trading is seen as good politics. The errand-boy mentality is ordinary, the defender of liberty is seen as bizarre. It's difficult for one who loves true liberty and utterly detests the power of the state to come to Washington for a period of time and not leave a true cynic."
