Dr. Ronny Adhikarya has had a long, distinguished professional career in international development assistance, serving for 35 years at the World Bank, United Nations & other international organizations. He retired from the World Bank in 2003 as Manager/Founder of its Knowledge Utilization through Learning Technologies (KULT) Program in Washington DC, USA. He was then appointed as the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO)/United Nations Representative & Country Director for Pakistan where he served until 2005. He now lives in the “Silicon Valley” of Northern California and Honolulu, Hawaii, and provides consultancy & advisory services, on a part-time basis, as a Managing Director of R-Adhikarya International.
Dr Adhikarya served for 15 years at the FAO/United Nations in Rome, Italy, as a senior specialist for extension, educ. & training. He worked with a wide network of training/educational institutions and development specialists in many countries on programs related to sustainable agri. development, environment, population, health and AIDS prevention, etc. He pioneered electronic publishing activities and advocated the applications of micro-computer technologies in agri. extension/training.
At the World Bank, he directed the KULT Program including franchising & marketing of demand-driven educational/training services to ensure financial heath/sustainability as part of institutional/staff capacity development in many countries.
Dr. Adhikarya was an award winning journalist in his native Indonesia before starting a career in international dev. assistance in 1972. He has undertaken professional assignments & official missions in 46 countries and travelled to 87 countries.
He has written 8 books (two are also in electronic/CD-ROM version) on communication, extension, training and education published in Germany, Italy, England, USA, Singapore and Malaysia as well as numerous book-chapters, journal articles and consulting reports.
Educated at Stanford Univ. (Ph.D.) and Cornell Univ.(M.P.S), he also worked at East-West Comm. Inst./The East-West Center, Hawaii; Univ. Science Malaysia; Inst. for Communication Research, Stanford Univ., as consultant to many United Nations and int'l. agencies, incl. UNESCO, UNFPA, Ford Foundation, USAID.
He has served international advisory committees/boards of several leading dev. organizations and educ./training institutions in Singapore, Thailand, England, Switzerland.

* Served as a member of the United Nations Country Team for Pakistan providing coordination for all policy & tech. assistance from UN agencies on agric., livestock, fisheries, forestry, nutritional matters.
* Forged working partnerships among gov., NGOs and multi/bi-lateral international dev.agencies in Pakistan in assessing the needs for, planning, funding & implementing sustainable agric. dev. projects.
