My true strengths are working collaboratively with small crews as director or crew member developing stories with practical solutions for making them work in a timely and cost effective manner. I love synergy, and I know I'm hitting on all cylinders when I'm passionate about a topic, though my normal state is "enthusiastic." Mix that with an insatiable curiosity, and you'll see how I'm developing a vast arcane knowledge which I utilize to maximize the effectiveness of video presentations.
2009 is my 22nd year working full time in television, and I've had the honor of working on many different levels and in different regions of the US. About half of my career has been spent as a freelancer or business owner.
As a student employee at WKAR TV, the PBS station on campus at Michigan State, I was identified as the student assigned to engineering- probably because I took electric shop in high school and fixed all my friends' guitar cables.
This immediately exposed me to the wondrous world of equipment, and I just can't tell you how many times I've been able to recall the joy of running 2" helical carts on a 22 position belt- the famed TCR - another RCA turnkey gem in my days at WUTV.
My main edit platform has been Final Cut Pro since 2003, having followed Adobe Premiere through version 6.5, and now picked it up again in CS4. Before mac, I worked on Amigas 1000-4000. I bought my first VIC20 in 1982 which captured my imagination and sealed my fate in computer graphics.
Since my very first grade-school-age newscasts, recorded on my tape recorder in the late 70s, I knew that I was destined to work in some sort of media as a career. I still find myself speaking into a mic from time to time either to voice a commercial or lay in a scratch track.
I'm a "beginning to end" producer/director.
Message development, writing and conceptualization.
Deep production experience covering many varied situations- mostly small format.
Motion graphics, design and animation
Editing, audio sweetening
Compression, encoding, authoring.

For 8 years, EXTRA LARGE EGGS helped businesses grow and organizations meet their goals. My high-tech boutique atmosphere allowed me to scale local and national crews to each project. I still have an edit suite and a funky meeting space in my downtown Olympia office, though XLE is no longer my full time job.
Besides video production, I've set up nearly a dozen Wordpress sites and I actively manage several now that include ecommerce, forms and discussion forums.
As a freelancer, I've done motions graphics, writing and directing on projects by such names as Martha Stewart Crafts, EK Success, Food Services of America, International Channel, Shine Limited and I've had credited positions for programs on HBO, BRAVO UK, TRIO, PBS, York Home Video and many more.

Migrating from a corporate headquarter position in Denver to a local commercial facility in Olympia, I was struck by how much more experience and talent was present in this organization than I had anticipated. Hitting tight deadlines and pushing equipment to its outer edges of capability, I learned a ton about design aesthetics, sales and marketing while developing confidence and "chops" in Photoshop, After Effects and a couple different 3D programs.

I produced commercials and shows for this low power UHF station owned by Ralph Nader. We also produced a local dance show, cooking show and broadcast Buffalo City Council and school board meetings. We had a small, hard-working crew with great local management. I also made cold calls to local businesses to sell advertising, operated master control and trained student interns.
