Roger Rohrbach’s Summary
I've been developing UNIX systems software since the earliest days of Sun Microsystems, and Web applications since Netscape was founded. I've almost a decade of cumulative experience managing software development teams and projects.
I spent the first half of my career solving technical problems: how to develop portable, high-quality software? How to manage complexity? Gradually, I became interested in management problems: how to increase predictability and reduce risk? How to improve productivity? How to ensure that the right problems are being solved? Still later I found myself concerned with issues of communication and creativity.
I would say that I've become more and more pragmatic. I aspired to the title of "software engineer" for many years; I'm now proud to call myself a "software developer." I find this change in my own attitude mirrored in my profession, with the move to agile methods and the emphasis of people over process.
I'm currently working with Ruby on Rails.
