Community Manager, Yahoo! Developer Network
San Francisco Bay Area
I'm the Community Manager at Yahoo! Developer Network. Recently, in a Product Management role, I crafted the overall Developer Experience for an upcoming Yahoo! launch. Before that, I was the Community Manager for MyBlogLog (a Yahoo! property) in 2007. In my brief time at MyBlogLog, I saw user signups increase by 400%, partly because I'm good (wink) but mostly because MyBlogLog is a fabulous product. My book, co-authored with Miranda Marquit, “Got Community?”, will be released in 2009.
I've blogged for blog networks and corporations, podcasted for small and large businesses, worked closely with social networking sites, and advised Fortune 500 companies in social media and community. My podcasts feature some of the web’s most interesting and well-known Web 2.0 experts in fields such as VoIP, Technology, Open Source, Marketing, Social Networking, Video Games and Blogging.
I’ve been involved with collaborative and ‘social’ sites since the late 90s. Much of my PR/marketing consulting, pre-Yahoo!, was topically focused towards the online market. I have advised small businesses and Fortune 50 companies on Web 2.0, Social Networking, VoIP, Video Games, Emerging Technology, the Blogosphere and Youth Marketing.

Mostly I just have meetings, read email and chat. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it I guess ;)

Writing and consulting takes up most of my time, but I take on a few 'odd' projects like flash tutorials and pro bono design/marketing work.

Concerned Women for America is the largest public policy women's organization in America. I served on the steering committee when I lived in GA and when I moved to VA I served on the steering committee for this state as well. My initial position was as newsletter editor, as my design work and writing lended towards this position, however, the media coordinator position came available I gradually transitioned into it. I wrote many press releases, kept the state website up to date, wrote and edited position papers, talking points and spoke on the radio defending CWA of VA's positions.
I represented CWA of VA locally and lobbied at the state house several times. My duties on the steering committee included organizational skills and general position planning. I learned a great deal in my years working with CWA of VA and I have great respect for the women and men leading the organization, especially at the state level.
