I am a writer and consultant specializing in the social implications of new technology. My first book, Generation Blend: Managing Across the Technology Age Gap (Wiley & Sons, 2008) focuses on the cultural issues of using social and collaborative software in a multi-generational workplace. I recently completed a white paper on Blue Collar 2.0 (the impact of Web 2.0 technology on non-knowledge work industries) for nGenera, and my recent work with Microsoft was collected in Listening to the Future: Why It's Everybody's Business, (co-authored with Daniel W. Rasmus), released by Wiley in a trade edition in November, 2008.
Previously, I worked as an independent communications consultant and writer since 1992, specializing in strategic marketing and messaging for the high tech industry. Clients include Microsoft, HP (previously Compaq), Intel, Intuit, Amazon, Watchguard Technologies and many others. I am a founding partner of MediaPlant, LLC, and helped to launch seven other online content and communications companies through the 1990s.
I am a founding member of the Board of Director of Older Adults Technology Services, a New York-based non-profit focused on technology training and workforce development for older adults. In 2008, I worked as a communications consultant for the Congressional campaign of Darcy Burner (D-WA 08).
