At 3M, Roberto has continued to work on an innovative methodology he created: strategic knowledge mapping. Roberto is currently applying strategic knowledge mapping at 3M to enable new perspectives on traditional issues such as succession planning, strategic account management, staffing strategies, global R&D knowledge transfer, planned knowledge growth path/career development, and increasing transparency of knowledge location in mergers and acquisitions. In addition, he has worked with more traditional KM techniques such as social network analysis and multiple knowledge retention and transfer strategies, creating customized solutions to unique problems throughout the corporation.
Prior to joining 3M, he researched and consulted extensively for over fifteen years in more than 20 of the Forbes’ 500 largest worldwide companies. Most of his work focused on the management of distributed projects, with emphasis on developing and implementing solutions designed to improve sharing and transfer of knowledge. One of them, a novel methodology created to improve crisis management and associated short-term knowledge transfer decisions, was the basis for a showcase application developed for Avian Flu Pandemic Preparedness and implemented in Miami (Miami-Dade County Health Department).
Distributed knowledge management, cross-cultural global team dynamics, management of distributed projects in complex environments, crisis evasion and management.
