Senior Fire & EMS Analyst at CALIBRE Systems
Washington D.C. Metro Area
I retired in December 2007 as a battalion chief who had the privilege of serving the citizens of Chesterfield County, Virginia for twenty-five years alongside the men and women of the Chesterfield (VA) Fire & EMS Department. During that “1st Career”, I served a combined nine-and-a-half years as a staff officer assigned to a variety of middle manager positions—a unique experience that made me a much more rounded chief officer. I learned a great deal about working with diverse groups of people, systems thinking and organizational development, in assignments that included: Director of the Training and Safety Division, Emergency Communications Center Manager, and EMS Director.
I’ve also been an instructor for training programs—at the local, state, and federal level--targeting student populations ranging from entry-level providers through chief officers. I’m very “at home” speaking before groups on just about any topic. When combined with my skill and experience in creating media-supported presentations, I'm able to consistently deliver presentations that inform and educate people.
Though my first career focused on Fire & EMS delivery by local government, I firmly believe my knowledge, skills, and abilities can benefit any organization that believes in providing exceptional customer service for both their internal and external customers.
Public speaking and presentations to groups; enterprise risk management; strategic planning and quality improvement; coaching and mentoring of supervisors and managers; and training and development of supervisors and managers, particularly those involved in public safety at the local level.
