I had the best employment and personal experience working as a camp counselor for middle school and high school groups of kids. It was an opportunity to immerse myself in the arts, adjust to a roll as a leader and gain a better idea of what it may be like to be an educator in the near future. This was truly an experience of a lifetime to me.
Another remarkable experience was to live with a Costa Rican family for two months. The courses I took were as valuable as the ones at my home university, however the privilege of becoming a part of a different family has left me with many memories of sharing stories of our cultural contrasts and discovering the many similarities we share.
This summer I will be spending a month and a half in Spain to continue practicing my Spanish. I hope to also have another opportunity to work as a counselor for high schoolers. Thinking ahead to the Fall of 2010, I look forward to my year of student assisting and student teaching.
Recently, I have come to understand another intersection of my many interests in college. I will be applying to graduate programs to pursue a PhD in Cognitive Psychology, which will allow me to study the way we think and process language.
Certainly, whatever the outcome of these two career paths, I will be in a position of teaching and learning. I look forward to this with much enthusiasm.
