Consultant at DNV-CIBIT
Amsterdam Area, Netherlands
In my work as consultant/trainer at DNV I try to combine my expertise in Enterprise/IT architecture, knowledge management, process improvement, and software development to effectively help organizations deal with their (strategic) IT challenges in the broadest sense of the word.
My PhD research at VU University Amsterdam focused on architectural knowledge management, which entails the application of knowledge management practices in an enterprise and software architecture domain. I was also involved in teaching the Master course on software architecture.
As technical consultant and researcher at Capgemini BAS B.V. I worked on defining and improving methods, processes, and (Web 2.0) tool support for the enterprise and software architecture domain, with a particular emphasis on knowledge management support.

At DNV I work on various ICT consultancy projects. My key expertise is in enterprise/IT architecture and knowledge management. Apart from conducting quality audits, and helping organizations with their architecture function (e.g. by providing structure and vision), my focus is on organizational transformations, which involves strategic, qualitative, but pragmatic support by combining expertise of various domains, including architecture, knowledge management and process improvement. I am also teaching various Masterclasses and other courses for the DNV Academy and am involved in course development.

I conducted my doctoral research in the area of architectural knowledge management, which entails the application of knowledge management practices in an enterprise and software architecture domain. I published around 18 publications on this topic in international refereed conferences or journals.
My PhD research was conducted in the context of the Griffin project. (http://griffin.cs.vu.nl) that aimed to develop notations, tools and associated methods to extract, represent and use architectural knowledge effectively. My research focused specifically on support for sharing architectural knowledge. We discovered that depending on the type of (tacit or explicit) architectural knowledge, different knowledge sharing strategies are effective in the architecting process. Based on these insights, we have designed and implementation Web 2.0-based tool support. We also extensively experimented with these tools in practice.

At Capgemini BAS, which was previously known as Getronics PinkRoccade Business Application Services, I worked part-time as technical consultant and researcher in enterprise and software architecture. I worked on defining and improving methods, processes, and (Web 2.0) tool support for the enterprise and software architecture domain, with a particular emphasis on knowledge management support. My recent activities include the design and implementation of a enterprise wiki environment for our 'architecture community', the training of colleague architects on how to effectively describe architectures, and the establishment of process guidelines for evaluation and evolution of architectures. Last but not least, I guided interns who conduct their master thesis research in the field of architectural knowledge management.
