Richie Hofmann graduated from Boston University in May 2009 with a B.A. from the University Professors Program, having written his senior thesis on James Merrill and painting.
He has received an Alice M. Brennan Fellowship from the Humanities Foundation at Boston University for his interdisciplinary research in literature and the visual arts. As a Fellow of the College of Arts and Sciences Writing Program, Richie collaborated with eight students per week to improve their writing and research skills. A volunteer at the Association of Literary Scholars and Critics since 2007, he has also gained invaluable experience in scholarly and trade publishing by interning with acquisitions editors at the MIT Press in Cambridge and at Oxford University Press in New York.
Aside from his literary activities, Richie contributed to the cultural life of Boston University through his creative and administrative support of arts. He served on the Executive Board of BU On Broadway—Boston University’s premiere musical theatre organization—from 2005 to 2009 in various positions including secretary, treasurer, membership vice president, and president. His list of theatrical credits at Boston University includes Songs for a New World, Into the Woods (Jack), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Hysterium), and a variety of musical revues and concerts. In December 2008, Richie was selected by Jeremy Schonfeld as a featured soloist in a concert celebrating the composer’s work at Boston University with special guest Amy Spanger.
In the fall, Richie will begin work on his Ph.D. in English literature at Emory University, where he intends to specialize in twentieth-century poetry and its relation to visual culture.
