Rich Heidorn’s Summary

Richard W. Heidorn, Jr., MBA/journalist/publishing entrepreneur, is a survivor of both the dot.com bust and the Enron collapse.

He worked for 17 years as a reporter and editor for The Philadelphia Inquirer, where he won several state and national awards for his investigative and business reporting. He also served as an editor on the National, Regional and Business Desks.

In 1999, Rich joined five former Dow Jones, Inc. execs in the launch of Internet Publishing Group, where he developed coverage plans, set editorial policies, performed market research and competitive analyses, directed marketing and helped design several business-to-business news and market data services, including one serving the competitive electric industry.

In 2002, after the dot.com bubble burst and Enron collapse, he became an investigator for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Washington DC. As an expert witness in a case involving the largest utility in the Southeast U.S. in 2004, he helped force the renegotiation of a tainted power contract, saving Georgia ratepayers $9.5 million a year. In 2006, he became a whistleblower, going public to accuse the agency's chairman of quashing a subsequent investigation into the same utility. His position was vindicated when the other members of the commission overrode the chairman's actions.

It was in DC that Rich met attorney Angel Robles, a native of Puerto Rico, with whom he founded InterMedia Publishing, a Spanish-language publishing company. InterMedia is the publisher of Angel's book, Guía y Formularios de Inmigración, and his weekly Q&A column on immigration, which runs on MSN Latino and numerous Spanish-language newspapers. InterMedia is completing work on its second book, a guide for Latino first-time homebuyers.

Rich's newest venture is the TreeHouse Media Project (www.treehouse-media.net) founded in 2008 to provide entrepreneurial and multi-media training for downsized and disaffected print and broadcast journalists.
