Richard Miles’s Summary

I help organizations get the results they promised their stakeholders and investors. I help build successful businesses as an entrepreneur, consultant, or employee.

I started my first business in 1980 and sold it to a Fortune 100 company in 1984. We built computerized systems that reduced energy use in highrise office buildings, a "green business" long before the term was coined.

After 5 years managing worldwide sales and marketing in the Fortune 500, I started a consulting firm to help tech companies go from startup to successful venture, writing business plans, raising money, building sales teams, designing advertising, packaging, and websites, and much more. I helped launch 321 Studios from a startup to $50MM in revenues in less than 3 years.

I am happy to have had the opportunity to apply my unique talents in building organizations, increasing reach, scope, impact and emotional immediacy for progressive companies.

BBBS has been in the Bay Area since 1958. I came on board in 2005 and merged three small, struggling local agencies into a single successful regional agency. During my tenure, the agency tripled the number of young people with a mentor, streamlined processes, implemented new technologies, built an advanced website with a dynamic online community, and built a platform for sustainable growth.

I helped Polaroid turn around its perennially money-losing floppy diskette business into a profitable division selling Polaroid-branded products as well as creating a healthy OEM business to software publishers and disc duplicators. I increased sales and profits in spite of the commodity nature of the business and the intense competition from Asian manufacturers willing to sell below cost to gain market share.
