I’ve worked in Marketing for a long time. In that time I’ve worked in lots of different industries from Retail to Travel, Digital to Mail Order. In that time, I’ve learnt a lot and achieved some amazing things.
My day time job
Director of Marketing and Technology for Global Lingo a language services company based in Leeds London, Singapore and Romania. The whole company is passionate about delivering high quality language services we go the extra mile with quality because that what companies love us for.
In the night
Co-organiser of Bettakultcha a series of events in which people with passion talk. The twist is that they have to stick to our rules: 20 slides, each changing every 15 seconds, NO SALES PITCHES. I’ve now organised over 50 Bettakultcha events across the North of England including a 400 seat sell out at Leeds Town Hall.
Organsised speakers to appear over several days at the Magic Loungeabout in 2012 and Beacons festival in 2014 including a Hurdy Gurdy player and a Musical Saw player!
Social networking is my passion (what did I do before twitter?). Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn are pretty much my life. Used in the right way they bring people together and help businesses make money, which is after all what we all want. As a knock on from this, I’ve been on the panel for several Social Networking discussions and I’m always keen to help others and learn new ideas at the same time.
The real me
The father of four, step dad to one, I was born and raised in Sheffield but lived in West Yorkshire for a while now. Now happily ensconced in Allerton Bywater I love taking photographs (maybe too much).

Global Lingo is fast becoming the top translation, interpreting and transcription company in the world. Our offices in London, Leeds, Singapore and Cluj in Romania ensure that companies around the world receive the highest quality language services available.
We provide language services to two of the worlds largest oil companies, three current Prime Ministers as well as a whole raft of other organisations.
My role as Marketing and Technology Director is to guide the development of Global Lingo is a leading Language Service Provider and to ensure that we offer our clients and staff the very best technology solutions available.
A key to this is ensuring we hire only the best people and equip them with the skills, technology and freedom to achieve the highest possible standards our clients require. We extend this idea to our translators, interpreters, editors and writers. Ensuring that we treat them with the respect they deserve.

It's a night to have fun watching people giving presentations on things they love. As a change from the normal Death by PowerPoint, Bettakultcha presenters have to abide by our three rules:
•All presentations will only be 20 slides long
•Each slide will last only 15 seconds before it goes on the next one
•No sales pitches
Over the last few years we have held over 50 events, with over 300 presentations to a total audience of several thousand people.
My role is as marketer, organiser, facilitator, technical lead and occasional compare. Bettakultcha has brought me into contact with some of the most creative, forward thinking people in the North and each event continues to surprise and amaze me.

My clients include Arco, Dulux Trade and City of York Council plus internal business development. Direct Relations specialise in customer marketing using data to give insight into customers before taking that learning and creating effective communications which reach the target audience creating amazing ROI. My work here covered all aspects of Direct Marketing from data and mail to social network marketing and guerilla tactics.

Applied Language Solutions – Head of Marketing & PR
At Applied Language, my main responsibility is the highly successful website. The number of daily unique visitors was taken from 22,000 per day to over 100,000 within one year of taking over the site. The site is the most visited communications website in the world and has secured the placing in the top 3 natural ranking positions in Google for language related searches.
While at Applied Language, I developed the first ever online payment system in the language industry and added innovative consumer based products such as online professional tattoo translation and online certified translation. I also oversaw the development of the company’s Public Relations gaining coverage in local, national and international press in print, radio and television. I also regularly gave presentations for awards and master classes in marketing.

Mamas & Papas – Direct Marketing Manager
Joined Mamas & Papas, a nursery equipment retailer. My role here was to develop the company’s mail order strategy which didn’t exist previously. I took this from a standing start and developed a customer contact strategy, implemented the procedure for taking orders and controlling stock levels. An e-commerce website was developed which ran in conjunction with Direct Mail, email and promotion within the retail stores.

Grattan Plc – Customer Retention Manager
Grattan is one of the UK’s largest and longest running mail order companies. My role included strategic planning and creativity to ensure that aggressive sales targets where constantly achieved. The campaigns I produced were the first to use innovative integrated campaigns using Direct Mail and Email. This produced record breaking results of a 25% conversion rate on several campaigns.

In this role I controlled a £3.5 Million marketing budget which covered print, direct mail and national press advertising. During my time at Leger I worked closely on national press campaigns to promote the Disneyland Paris Resort and worked very closely with the marketing team at Disney. While at Leger I gained myPost Graduate Diploma in Direct Marketing (Dip IDM).
