Richard often works in an agile teams carrying out ethnographic research and user research. The research helps to identify the motivations and behaviour of consumers and how people interact with their environments & technology.

Insights generated from the research are used to identify new opportunities and hidden user needs. The insights are used to support innovation programmes, business decisions and design strategy.

Richard has carried out user research in a number of different sectors from healthcare & wellbeing through to ageing, learning, museums, mobile, financial services, service design & product design. Projects include:

Government Digital Service, Cabinet Office: Carrying out user research with technologists including chief technology officers, chief operating officers, technical architects, developers, technology leads, data scientists, user researchers and service managers to support a learning and development project.

ProtoGeo - Moves app: Advising and coaching the design and technology teams on user centred design research methods.

Design Council: Diabetes management working with patients to co-create a new kind of service. Ethnographic research, co-creation and prototyping.

Technology Strategy Board, the Long-term Care Revolution: Ethnographic research with three market segments: people living in care homes; people working in care homes and older adults living independently to provide a point of view.

Alison Black Research and Consulting - mobile advertising: Carrying out in home interviews and observations of people using their mobile devices to inform a mobile service development strategy.
