Project Manager at Fathom Business Solutions
Sutton, United Kingdom
Web Producer / Project Manager with over 12 years experience of working in the Internet.
Over those years I have worn many hats, including web developer, HTML editor, online journalist and product manager.
My keen interest in all things Internet and inquisitive nature mean I'm always at the cutting edge of the online world and am always willing to trial the latest web 2.0 start up and analyse it's potential benefits for my current employer.
Looking to further my project management experience and continue in the Internet sphere for as long as I can.

Too soon to tell totally, but doing all the things a manager of projects would do.

Main tasks include managing a number of high profile projects from an operations and production perspective as well as liaising between internal customers, external clients and third party providers. These products have included the ASME award-nominated Sponsored Debates proposition, the sponsored content micro-sites product as well as the online MBA Fair.
The operations team is also assessing processes and trying to streamline a number of products and projects we work on, including the weekly publication of the Economist magazine online.
Across these products I have completed a variety of important tasks and roles, including drawing up proposals and documentation to streamline and clarify processes; implementing a web analytics tracking solution and brainstorming ways to increase traffic; drafting project plans; creating project documentation; prioritising workloads, running meeting; sending out comms and working to tight deadlines across a number of depts and time zones.

Responsible for helping the editors in OCE fulfil the vision of their projects by helping out with technical savvy. All the techy bits that are a bit beyond the realm of the editors gets passed our way. I also do a bit of project management.
The fun, however, is in the organiser products I work on - alerts & reminders and AOL-created calendars. We're getting some positive feedback and I am the UK's "Go to guy" for these.

January 2000 — October 2000 (10 months)
Helped set up the backend content management system for the company (liasing with our third party technical contractors) and also helped set up the encoding suite for video and audio encoding.
Also build their award winning WAP site from scratch.

Ended up being #2 in Jam! Showbiz behind the legendary John Sakamoto. Did loads of "guerilla online journalism" - did the interview/news article, transcribed the interview, got it checked, formatted the copy, sourced the images, put it online.
Did heaps of other stuff too - from acting Executive Producer for a summer, to wading through 1000s of entries for Alanis Morrissette competitions to being forced to watch the Tragically Hip live from the front row.
Highlight? Interviewing Saint Etienne then being invited back stage at their Toronto gig!
Content I wrote while at Jam! has just been used for a new Duran Duran biography called "Notorious", so that's awesome!

* Received Future Publishing Award for Best WAP site of 2000 for the Worldpop site I built. However, as I was let go, no one told me I'd won it for them until MONTHS later.
* Economist.com's Sponsored Debate product nominated for 2008 National Magazine Award
