Ricardo Almeida’s Summary

Being a system analyst and a software development manager, for over 9 years, can be considered as a privilege! And having the opportunity of doing it on one of the best national software houses, I consider it an honor! For over 9 years, I’ve been responsible for a development project (standard software for Production Management) from the beginning, scheduling all phases and getting "hands on it".

Although pressure has become a daily company, I feel that this project has gave me a complete understanding of Project Management, controlling their costs, defining milestones, scheduling all phases and managing teams. At this moment, Manufactor software has been reached a high technology level (offering a complete framework for implementing) and market share, being implemented at more than 120 industries (heading for the leadership of software market for industrial nature).

Studying for a Master Degree has developed my senses for discovering new strategies for industrial environments and systems to support them, and which became important for Manufactor software development’s roadmap. It also teach me that we should never stop studying and sharing our ideas through the world.

Living on a deep sense of mission accomplished I’ve decided, months ago (and following some principles for a “more complete” personal achievements), to integrate on a new career as a Project Manager and IT & PM Consultant, who could spend more time on Investigation (at a part-time schedule). So, at September 2008, I've started a PhD program at MIT-Portugal (EDAM - Leaders for Technical Industries).

Teaching is also a passion! These last 9 years, I've been doing several presentations and technical formations, and I’ve always felt very comfortable with it. I’ve also doing some presentations about Team Management and I’ve been having terrific experiences! I will be always intent for any opportunity for teaching on a part-time schedule (as long it doesn’t affect my main professional goals).

Ricardo Almeida’s Education

  • Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto

PhD , MIT Portugal (EDAM - Leaders for Technical Industries) , 20082011 (expected)

THESIS THEME: "Flexible information technologies for complex and non-hierarchical supply chain networks"

    ABSTRACT:
This research work will be developed in the scope of a broader research project (FLEXINET) about flexibility and agility in the automotive supply networks. It intends to study how to handle inherent complexity of supply chain networks, allowing companies to manage their visibility, achieving a high level of capacity planning flexibility and management agility; to deal with uncertainty demand and capacity restrictions, all over the extended supply chain network.

As final result, it’s expected to design an innovative information technology infrastructure (service-oriented) to support such an interactive system for supply chain networks, and the needed data model able to increase complexity on network messages, to promote a complete collaborative approach.

  • Universidade de Aveiro

Master of Degree (MSc) , “Gestão de Operações” (Operational Management) , 20052007

THESIS THEME: "Orders negotiation supported by production capacity analysis"

    ABSTRACT:
Market evolution has been characterized for a deep growth of "make-to-order" business models since specialization of the customer needs are more and more required. This source, associated to an uncertain demand, compels companies to evaluate and afect its resources constantly (giving up the traditional MRP systems) and to decide for planning techniques that include management capacity restrictions.

Some ERP systems in the market were studied based on some defined criteria and they all presented some gaps in the analysis of repercussions.

During this work a new system for the development of an innovative model of capacities is introduced, with a high level of integration and degree of "nervousness" (subject to any change of its capacity variables), in order to provide the manager with a set of different "views" from its productive capacity.

    Activities and Societies:
Order negotiation based on the production capacity (analysis of the methodologies and production management tools focusing mainly on order negotiation, analysis of the technological solutions and the development of an innovative capacity model with the ability to react and to analyze repercussions completely).
  • ANJE - Young Portuguese Entrepreneurs

    Advanced Project Management 20062006

Acquisition and implementation of project management techniques using PMI (Project Management Institute) standard rules, regarding the fundamental knowledge of the necessary quantitative methods for project management.

  • Escola de Negócios e Administração (ENA)

    CAP , Pedagogical Training for Trainers (B-Learning) , 20062006

The vocational aptitude certification teaches us the best practices to use on formations and other kind of public presentations (since it judges our behavior “on stage”). Nowadays, this certification is an obligator issue for any former which desires to teach in Portugal.

    NOTE: B-Learning course.

  • Universidade de Aveiro

    Post-Graduated , “Gestão de Operações” (Operational Management) , 20032004
