    Led by Clive Turner, a project was conceived to provide an accelerated recognition of skills and competences of those involved in Cellular Customer Service. (Call centre agents, repair centre staff).

    Problem: dififficult to find and hire competent staff due to there being no assessment or suitable qualification available.
    Solution Concept: Use the experience and knowledge of Nokia to define a qualification which could assess competence, based on the national vocational qualification with different levels. Anyone who passed an assessment would be a Nokia Certified x (e.g. Repair Technician).
    To accelerate recognition, value, and take up of the programme, Cambridge University was approached and agreed to help map competences and provide the assessment and test accrediation.
    Result. Nokia Certified, Cambridge Accredited NVQ matched to the national qualifications framework.

    The project to map and assess was a success, and was taken up by Nokia Academy for retail training and piloted in Singapore and UK.
    end note
    Sadly the timing of the financial crisis and the downturn in Nokia's fortunes caused the project to be mothballed before roll out commenced despite the successful pilot. As a result there are just 12 individuals who passed assessment and now hold a recognised qualification.
