From 1980-2005 I served as the Associate Director of the Pratt Institute Center for Community and Enviornmental Development.
This office was created in 1963 to provide planning and architecture services (added in 1975) to housing and community development corporations and related civic organizations in New York City.
As Associate Director I directed a major section of the office that combined university planning and architecture studio course work with full time staff resources. Major studies ranged from land use and building condition surveys across Central Brooklyn to the location and implementation of a minor league baseball stadium in Coney Island.

I re-built this organization. When I ran it, it was a national association of university- and commmunity-based planning and architecture programs serving low-and moderate-income people and neighborhoods throughout the United States.

MS , City and Regional Planning , 1970 — 1975
I originally attended Pratt Institute in the Art School, but my work at the time was in the civil rights movement and that was tied directly to my anti-war position and my interest in social action and education.
My first job at Pratt was to "bind" the "Central Brooklyn Guide to Community Resources" as a volunteer. This led to a regular full time job and a Master of Science degree in City and Regional Planning.
