I moved to San Antonio two years ago from Philadelphia, PA. I loved PA, but the winter is not for me at all. My wife and I wanted somewhere warm with a decent cost of living (we had lived in Los Angeles when we got married, so that was out of the picture) and San Antonio won the battle of "where to live." Since moving here, I've become a big fan of the city. It offers just what I need in a city (just enough life and excitement and just enough rest and relaxation) and after settling in, I decided to move from my former career as a rockstar, to something new.
I've owned two houses in my lifetime and had four agents that I've worked with while doing so. Two of them in particular inspired me to become an agent myself. When I bought my house in San Antonio, I had all but given up on real estate agents after having had a bad experience with one. My agent here, showed me things didn't have to be the way they had gone in my last transaction. He was there for me all the time. He took care of every detail. He let me vent to him occasionally. He understood what I was going through as we struggled with our loan company. He showed me that you could be a great agent and care about your clients. He showed me exactly who I wanted to be as an agent (and I still speak to him).
My goal in real estate is to continue to look at the transaction from the viewpoint of a consumer, but with the knowledge and expertise of being a licensed agent. To be able to understand what my clients are experiencing as they make the largest purchase of their life will allow me to properly help them. Sometimes I think the "consumer-minded" thinking is lost in real estate.
I continue to further my education, not just for my mandatory licensing requirements, but because I want to know more. The more we know, the better we can serve our clients and help each other out.

Matt is a former PA-based rockstar turned real estate agent with Exit Realty North in San Antonio, TX. He was asked to join AgentGenius to provide a look at the successes and trials of being a newer agent. His consumer-based outlook on the real estate business has helped him see things from both sides. He is married to a wonderful woman from England who makes him use the word "rubbish."

Alamo Institute was a great place to take my real estate classes. The instructors took a lot of extra time with the students and I walked out of there fully prepared to pass my licensing exam. Many people don't pass it the first time around, but I knew that I had been taught well...and I passed the first time with flying colors. If you're ever considering taking real estate classes, I highly recommend Alamo.
