Brought previously non-functional but highly automated small coal dredging plant online. At age 21, using my high school trig, I designed and built two 80' long transportable conveyors for stockpiling coal. Operating the plant required creativity and a variety of design, construction, equipment operation skills. We operated a plant capable of producing 1200 ton (6 railroad cars) of coal in a day. From a riverbed, we dredged/reclaimed coal that was mixed with sand. We separated the coal from the sand, washed it, dried it and loaded it into railroad cars on our 6 car siding. The plant was automated and equipped with closed circuit monitors to the point where we did this with just 2 operators. My position was all about problem solving. We generated our own electricity. We designed and built our own equipment and hydraulic systems. I quickly became an expert welder, cutter, fabricator, electrician, plumber. There was lots of hard physical work, but it was mostly about problem solving. No other plants "like ours" existed, so if we needed something, we quickly figured it out how to do it ourselves. With my understanding of physics, I excelled in operating the dredge at the plant's capacity.
