Writing software and making it accessible, usable, and powerful for both developers and end users

I am currently employed as a programmer for MobileRobots Inc. (formerly ActivMedia), designer and manufacturer of mobile robot platforms (for research, sensing, materials/parts transport, surveillance, mapping/surveying, and manufacturing) and software. I mostly work on developer tools and libraries, help with technical support, and am the release engineer. I also do some integration of new device interfaces into software, and integration and customization of other libraries and software systems.
In my off-hours, I'm also the assistant cook and bottle washer for the VOS (http://interreality.org) project, a distributed object system with applications in 3D visualization and multiuser collaboration in virtual worlds/virtual environments, web applications, and more.
Most of my programming experience is in C and C++ on Linux, but also on doing cross-platform Linux/Windows software. I have also used some Python, Perl, PHP and Java.
My personal interests include 3D-modeling, GIS/Cartography, information visualization, human-computer interfaces in general, computer supported collaborative work. I try to learn more about these when I can.

I help design, implement and maintain both end-user applications and development libraries for mobile robots. I also do most of the user support for the software, software developer documentation, and manage releases and packaging.
MobileRobots was formerly known as ActivMedia Robotics.

The Interreality project is developing an open platform for collaboration in 3D multiuser worlds and other media, interconnection and interlinking of programs and program data across networks and the internet, and efficient distribution of data across the internet. It has operated since 1999 as an open source project, and the technology has been carefully designed, tested and revised over that time. At this point, it is becoming a stable, mature and sophisticated software platform with the beginnings of 3D and web applications being built on top of it. More at http://interreality.org
