I am a registered dietitian (RD) and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certified Health and Fitness Specialist. I have a private practice in Sports Nutrition and Weight Management for professional, aspiring and everyday athletes. I provide nutrition communications consulting, with an emphasis on "web 2.0" technologies.
I have a B.S. in nutrition, B.A. in chemistry, and M.A in communications from Johns Hopkins University. I have seven years experience in non-profit association management and over twelve years experience in the health and wellness field as a trainer, instructor, and manager.
In the nutrition community, I am a member of American Dietetic Association, DC Metro Area Dietetic Association - board member, and the Nutrition Entrepraneurs, Weight Management, and Sports Cardiovascular and Nutrition (SCAN) dietetic practice groups. In the technology community, I am a member of DCWW (DC web women).
I write a blog called Balanced Health and Nutrition, where I evaluate, explore, and deconstruct the latest food, nutrition and exercise information - with a focus on a balanced approach to news. I am a guest blogger for the diet and nutrition section of Health Commentary, a place to discuss health and current issues in health care. I am a board member and nutrition adviser for Shaping Youth, a California-based online forum about media and marketing's influence on kids.
My passion is in helping people live healthier, happier lives. I aspire to use my knowledge and experiences to reach people on an individual, family, community and national basis through a successful private practice and nutrition communications opportunities with the television, print, and online media. I would love to write a book one day (and I already have winning ideas churning in my head).
If I am not working, I am usually working out. I am a two-time marathon runner. I also do strength training and swimming on a regular basis. Yoga keeps me sane, balanced and flexible.

I teach sports nutrition to tomorrow's movers-and-shakers in the exciting field of exercise science. Not your typical professor, my lectures are more like chat rooms - where we have interesting discussions around the top issues in sports nutrition - and the assignments prepare students for actual work they'd do in the real world.
