Rebecca Newton’s Summary

In October of 2007, Rebecca Newton joined Mind Candy Inc. as the Director of Community after nearly 6 years at Sulake.com. Her responsibilities include developing, implementing and overseeing Community, Customer Service and Moderation efforts for Mind Candy and its Moshi Monster product. Rebecca serves on the Mind Candy Senior Management Team.

After 16 years at RTI International in N.C., she began her online career with America Online in 1994, where she was the Program Manager for Recruitment, Orientation and Education for AOL's Community Leader Program. At AOL, Rebecca was responsible for centralizing, developing and managing AOL Community Leader recruitment, orientation and online education efforts. During her tenure at AOL, her team built the program from 5,000 to 16,000 active Community Leaders.

She has served as a consultant to a broad range of clients, including: The Scottish Parliament, HowStuffWorks.com, RealAge.com, I-Chat.com, The Johns Hopkins University, U Penn, American University, and national Volunteer Administration Organizations in the US.

Rebecca has been published in Teen Magazine, Yahoo! News, Money Magazine, and most recently wrote the foreword for the NSPCC's initiative "Don't Hide It!" Ms. Newton speaks regularly on Internet Safety and Social Networking. She has served on panels at SXSWi (2007, 2008), the Regulatory Kids Watch Conference (2008) the NFL.com Business Summit (2007) and was a keynote speaker at the Online Child Protection Conference in London, UK (2007), and a presenter at the UK's Southwest Grid for Learning's E-Safety Conferences (2007).

Rebecca is the Secretary and past Deputy-Chair of e-mint.org.uk, an international online community professionals organisation.
