Rebecca Ballard’s Summary
I am a computer trainer, and have been for over 10 years. I specialise in training people with disabilities. Many of my clients are people who are visually impaired - blind and partially sighted. Others have dyslexia, arthritis and other motor impairments.
Primarily, I work with people one-to-one. I also provide group training for disabled computer users; people who would like to use their mouse less (to lower chances of RSI and other lower limb disorders); and groups of support workers to give them an understanding of assistive technology.
My skills as a trainer include being able to “chunk down” applications into bite-size pieces; putting the most nervous clients at their ease and giving them confidence in their own computing skills.
Another of my major skills is the facility to quickly understand how a piece of software works and to structure training accordingly. This is a very useful skill when working in a work environment with bespoke software.
Whilst I have occasionally dipped my toe into the arena of the Apple Mac, I only train on the windows environment.
