It was an internal project of Siemens to provide a uniform platform to all Siemens companies for its ERP needs. A very successful and stressful program. The best learning of all was the detailed roadmap from conceptualizing the BPO exercise till its implementation, inclusive of all related change management challenges, its pitfalls and its amazing benefits.

This was a fire-fighting assignment - The Siemens local company was required to grow its business TEN fold in one year to meet its project commitments in a Telecommunications project. I have handled mega-projects before but what we achieved there was mind-boggling. We flew in consignments by chartered Jumbo's, extremely complex shipments. Met most commitments. No mishaps - till the economic crisis of 1997. Spent some time doing Quality studies based on the EFQM model. Helped out with a power project, learning a lot about coal mines, shipping and reading the fine print in contracts!

What did I not do during this time? Headed a large business unit with profit/loss responsibility, participated in major reorganizations, contributed to product launch decisions, started new ventures, executed mega projects, looked into project financing.
Let me turn this around - it might be easier. I did everything that people dread doing and dream of doing, barring an IPO.
