Rashida Mendes’s Summary
Rashida Mendes is CEO of RM Development, and owner and developer of residential and commercial properties. Her corporate mission is to increase environmentally sustainable initiatives through the development of commercial properties and operating companies.
She has honed her skills in private equity, syndication, construction management, and lending through Management positions at Cushman and Wakefield, JP Morgan Asset Management, and Citibank’s Community Development Group. As a VP in Bank of America’s Commercial Real Estate Banking group, she monitored a $700MM portfolio of real estate assets and underwrote loans for commercial developers.
She holds an MBA in Real Estate and Finance from Columbia Business School. Ms. Mendes’ interest in finance began while working at The White House under President Bill Clinton’s administration. She drafted investment recommendations for Clinton’s $400 million African Trade Initiative, which was overseen by the National Economic Council. She also holds a Masters Degree in Demography/ Population Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Wesleyan University. Between graduate programs, she was a Manager of Business Development at American Express. Responsibilities included relationship management, project management and analytics/forecasting.
Ms. Mendes serves as board member for African American Real Estate Professionals of New York (AAREPNY), and the Jamaica, Queens YMCA. Professional associations include Urban Land Institute (ULI), International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), CCIM candidate (Certified Commercial Investment Member), Council of Urban Professionals (CUP), and 100 Women in Hedge Funds. She is also an active alumna of organizations such as Columbia Business School Alumni Association, University of Pennsylvania Alumni Association, Prep for Prep, the Spence School, the Robert Toigo Foundation, and Professional Women in Construction.
