Raleigh Buckner’s Experience

  • senior web developer

    the bounce agency

(Privately Held; Marketing and Advertising industry)

    January 2008Present (1 year 11 months)

I joined bounce as the first developer in the growing Interactive Group. At the time, all development projects were handled by vendors under the instruction of the interactive director. As the group's developer, my main task was to take over the management of development vendors for existing projects and eventually bring all development in-house.

I was able to quickly take over the maintenance of existing website and Flash programming projects resulting in an immediate decrease in outside costs for the agency. After familiarizing myself with the projects, I planned the transfer of each from vendor servers to a bounce-controlled hosting plan.

In addition to existing projects, I have developed and continue to develop several new projects that would normally be sent out to vendors. Working closely with the Interactive Group's lead designer, we are able to quickly plan and put together projects much more quickly and efficiently in-house - saving our clients money while still increasing the agency's profitability.

    Project examples;

Palmetto Bluff Gallery of Homes (http://palmettobluffgalleryofhomes.com) - A data-driven catalog of the listings at a high-end real estate community. This site was originally developed by a vendor with PHP/MySQL. After taking this site in-house, I completely re-coded the layout during a redesign and added several new features.

DeFeet Custom Sock Configuration Tool (http://defeet.thatsabigidea.com DEMO) - This is an XML-driven Flex/AS3-based tool for a custom sock manufacturer. The tool allows the user to customize the colors, height, and text for several products and then transfers the user to the existing site's shopping cart for checkout.

Laura Ashley USA (http://lauraashley-usa.com) - The US site for a multi-national fashion company. This site was completely rebuilt into an easy-to-update CMS-based site. By utilizing an open-source CMS this site was completed on time and significantly under budget.

    Jackson Marketing Group

(Privately Held; Marketing and Advertising industry)

    March 2001January 2008 (6 years 11 months)

I joined Jackson-Dawson as the first and only developer in the relatively new interactive department. I was tasked with maintaining and improving the code for current clients’ sites as well as architecting and developing new projects.

I quickly trained myself in Adobe Director so I could take over interactive CD-ROM projects as well. Other development tasks such as meeting support modules and savings calculators soon blended into my daily work alongside my primary focus of website programming.

A couple of the sites I was responsible for:

BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC (http://bmwusfactory.com) – The official website of the BMW Factory in Greer, SC. Originally built as an HTML site around 1999, I converted this site to a “classic” ASP based site shortly after being hired to help with ease of updates and usability. In early 2007, a redesign was planned featuring massive photography and a lot of interactivity. As a solution, I planned building the site around an ASP.NET (C#) based CMS and Adobe Flex.

Sakrete (http://sakrete.com) – A project and product based site for a Charlotte-based masonry company. This site utilizes ASP.NET (C#) as a back-end and a little Microsoft AJAX Toolkit on the front-end for navigation interactivity.

Outside of client-based work, there are a couple of other accomplishments that I am proud to be responsible for:

    • In late 2003 I suggested purchasing a CD/DVD duplicator so Jackson-Dawson could begin producing some of our projects in-house. As of 2008, well over 10,000 CDs/DVDs for internal and external use had been produced – saving J-D the cost of outside vendors as well as creating an additional stream of revenue into the company.

    • In late 2004, I created a system for helping me streamline my timekeeping process – cutting the time required from 30-45 minutes to under five. Shortly after, the other member of the interactive team began using the system as well – resulting in better efficiency throughout the department.
