Organizational Consultant and Broadcaster
Madison, Wisconsin Area
Recipient of the City of Madison's 2008 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award
I have a diverse range of skills and experiences I bring personally to any job requiring communications and coordination -- and access to a strong network of professionals with complementary skills for larger projects. I have served as both an executive director and a board president in multiple positions, and also in a diverse range of positions as a print and broadcast journalist, and public relations specialist.
I've recently returned to the university to hone my skills on the road to graduate work. My overall objective is to achieve a fusion of my social justice/cultural competency work with new communications technologies. This includes ongoing work in collecting oral histories, and cultural competency and communications consulting.
It is my privilege to be able to offer time on my Sunday afternoon radio show, Forward Forum, to help get out the word about important issues, worthy organizations and special events locally -- and to use our streaming audio capability to arrange "radio town meetings" on social justice and civil rights-related issues and developments that are also national and international in scope. (See www.forwardforum.net.)
In 2009, I serve as president of the United Nations Association-USA of Dane County, where I hope to spotlight local efforts to work for human rights globally. I also hope to continue efforts to initiate a blog, to expand the scope of the radio show, and to produce video and audio resonant with my social justice interests for wider distribution. It is also my hope to bring together a media training/media reform conference that examines the intersections of the strengths of traditional journalism, side-by-side with the democratizing effects of new technologies in encouraging citizen journalism--all with the goal of advancing civil rights and cultural competency efforts locally, nationally, and worldwide.
