Patric Welch first fell in love with technology as a teenager, shortly after his dad brought home a Commodore 64.
A lot has changed since those days, but Welch's fascination with electronic gadgetry has continued to grow in the fast-changing world of technology.
As a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Welch earned a reputation as the go-to guy for technology - from hooking up computers to tackling printer problems for fellow students in his dorm.
He applied that knowledge first as a systems engineer for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in Columbus, Ind., then as a technology director for Credit Union Times in West Palm Beach, Fla. and finally as a manager of software development for RealMed in Indianapolis.
Welch has accumulated 18 years experience working in the technology field, mostly designing and developing software. He has also taught at Ivy Technical Institute and Indiana University-Purdue University-Columbus as well as run his own technology consulting company.
He now focuses his efforts on helping those unfamiliar with the ins and outs of technology, from the overwhelmed consumer trying to mull over digital camera options to the grandparent struggling to learn the art of e-mail correspondence.
Welch founded his company, Noobie, Inc., in 2006 with the sole purpose of helping those struggling to comprehend any given facet of technology.
"Technology makes us work more efficiently and enhances our lives. When it comes to Noobie, I want to help others who are unfamiliar with technology to not be so afraid of it and frustrated by it. I want to empower noobies to feel confident about their technology decisions. I want to help educate them so they have a greater understanding for any given area of technology, " he said.
Patience. Not talking over anyone's head.
