Provide online forums, chats and MUD games similar to CompuServe and the original Prodigy. This was all character based before the days of browsers.
My role was in the billing group. We collected transaction records from the online systems and everything was billed per minute per forum. Plus a per minute connection rate. Sadly the company went under.
