Hugh Plappert’s Summary

TURN-AROUND SOMEONE ELSE'S MESS. OPTIMIZING UGLY CODE. REMOVE COSTLY BUGS. DECOMPILE AND DOCUMENT EXISTING APPLICATIONS.

Stablized what was thought to be 52 departmental applications. Documented them and found only 38 applications. Improved productivity and eliminated the daily calls to the VP to give an excuse for why the billion dollars in credit card transactions were not settled.

Took on a project that was estimated to cost over $1 million to build by I.T. Completed the application in 40 hours for less than $2000. The success was investigated by the VP of Finance and my hands were found clean. The application lasted for over 12 years with no bug fixes or enhancements.

The application took over 3 hours to execute and I found 4 logical bugs. Rewrote the application and it runs under 12 minutes with the bugs fixed.

Took a 48 hour automated process with many manual steps down to one button and processed in 3 minutes by enhancing the existing application instead of re-writing it in a more costly fashion.

The vendor said the 13 bugs would take at least 3 months and $50,000 to fix. I opened the code and rewrote one store procedure that fixed the 13 bugs in 8 hours of development time.... this is my first time to write a stored procedure.

Do you feel ill? What can The Report Doctor do for you?

NOTE: I HAVE 3 DAY WEEKENDS AND I AM LOOKING FOR PART-TIME CONSULTING WORK.

Wrote a front-end to a medical device inspecation database that would sync up changes from one copy to another copy. There were new records added to both of the databases. The challenge was to cross-ref the ID's from one database to the other database including child records. I saved the company time by being able to create the system without making changes to their FDA regulated databases. I was given two weeks to complete this emergancy assignment. It was completed, tested, and documented in 1 week and 1 hour from the minute I took the assignment working only on evenings and the weekend.
