My professional passion is the way in which technology and the Internet are changing commerce and culture.

My first career was is in broadcast journalism. Around '95 I saw that a TV station's viewership could drive traffic to a web site. A site provided a second "channel" that reached viewers with the same product in a different package.

In 2000, my interest in web content and computer databases lead me to an Internet startup called SmartReminders.com. SmartReminders promised to deliver news customized to your interests via e-mail. It was an advertising model and long story short, that business was not sustainable nor valued after the dot-com bubble burst that year.

Fortunately, my bosses and I were determined entrepreneurs. We built a web based application that securely held a client's customer information, and allowed it to be cleanly segmented for direct marketing campaigns. E-mail was still viable of course, so we integrated an e-mail marketing platform that transmitted and tracked campaigns.

I play in an Internet enabled economy where the next big thing usually arrives before you realize it. Not long ago, businesses debated the need for a web site. Then e-mail became, and still is, the #1 Internet application. Now search rivals e-mail, joining the list of proven e-marketing strategies. I believe online social networks, user generated content and blogs are part of the next channel that marketers will embrace. After that, it will be the next generation of pier to pier commerce as powerful technology gets in the hands of consumers who now control markets.

Currently, I'm with Acxiom Corporation. I am a Director of Service Operations for Acxiom Digital, the online marketing agency division. I started the Acxiom Digital office in Nashville, where we create and fulfill our client's e-marketing campaigns. I have a team of 30 working under me.
