  • Technical Scientific Laboratory Glassworker

    UC Davis Lab Glass Shop

    (Educational Institution; Higher Education industry)

    February 1998June 2000 (2 years 5 months)

My experience in this field was performed in a technical scientific glassworks laboratory. I was trained to repair and manufacture scientific glassware for laboratory use. Materials included Corning glass and quartz. Work was performed on glass lathes as well as with static manual stations.

Combined with more extensive experience in technical scientific laboratory machining, I combined my glassware knowledge with the manufacture and repair of analytical machinery and equipment. Embedding metal sensors into glass and custom-fitting glassware to unique custom physical chemistry analytical machines were just a few ways scientific glassblowing stood far apart from making Christmas tree ornaments!

  • Technical Scientific Laboratory Machinist

    Sisto Machine Shop

    (Mechanical or Industrial Engineering industry)

    September 1989August 1998 (9 years)

With 8 years of extensive machining experience, I reached a Journeyman level of knowledge and capability creating a wide variety of machines. The primary focus of this machine shop was the technical machining of scientific laboratory equipment for analytical and technical purposes in physical chemistry and other scientific departments.

Having completed a second BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a first BS degree in Biochemistry, my ability to engineer designs for the scientific industry expanded greatly. Invalid Blueprint and CAD designs were a common problem, and my ability to consult and understand projects allowed me to help others carry their designs to fruition. I communicate comfortably with designers, scientists and businessmen... providing the expertise to expedite complex projects.

My knowledge of marketing and advertising, web design, and programming allows me to see both the Big Picture of individual projects as well as the clarity of the larger business goals.
