Oilseed Crop Development Specialist
Redhill, United Kingdom
I have 30 years of experience in the domestication and commercialisation of new oilseed crops. I have covered all aspects of the process: initial hands-on research (plant breeding, agronomy, analysis); setting up and running a dedicated plant research facility; location of suitable growing areas worldwide; locating, selecting and training farmers; designing and negotiating production contracts; organisation of shipping; and design and implementation of a quality control and quality assurance programme to pharmaceutical standards. I am therefore well used to the vagiaries of agriculture and of demand forecasts and know how to tailor a production programme to best meet production requirements but also to minimise the risk to all parties.
These skills are equally applicable to oilseed crops destined for food use or those intended for biofuels, especially biodiesel.

1999 — Present (10 years )
Independent, international consultant specialising in the research, development and commercialisation of novel oilseed crops.
(Public Company; 201-500 employees; SOH; Pharmaceuticals industry)
1986 — 1999 (13 years )
Board-level director with responsibility for all aspects of oilseed sourcing. This included both managing a dedicated crop research team and organising and overseeing the commercial oilseed production programme in 8 countries. The most challenging aspect was managing the uncertainties inherent in the agricultural production of novel oilseed crops within the context of uncertain demand forecasts. This was achieved through a multi-layered risk control and risk-sharing strategy which best protected the interests of all participants in the production chain.
