Peter Frueh's Experience

Web Developer

LinkedIn

Public Company; 1001-5000 employees; LNKD; Internet industry

August 2010Present (1 year 10 months)

As a Web Developer at LinkedIn, I'm involved with a wide array of products. In 2010, I worked with the Communications group to enhance LinkedIn's Inbox, and to develop/revise network update and notification emails. In parallel to these projects, I introduced company-wide coding guidelines for HTML email that offer users a more consistent and mobile-friendly experience. I also brought embedded YouTube video to member feeds via a winning Hackday project (see http://blog.linkedin.com/2010/12/22/linkedin-video-sharing/). In 2011, I did the web development for LinkedIn's student job portal, student profile sections, and contributed to LinkedIn Alumni.* I am currently working on the Profile team, and occasionally shredding tasty guitar licks in LinkedIn's garage band, Next Play (see http://blog.linkedin.com/2011/11/23/inday-culture-from-across-the-globe/).

Frontend Engineer

Yahoo!

Public Company; 10,001+ employees; yhoo; Internet industry

May 2007July 2010 (3 years 3 months)

As a Frontend Engineer on My Yahoo! and the Yahoo! homepage, I programmed client-side code for 500+ million users worldwide. In 2008, my collaboration with the Yahoo! Application Platform team made My Yahoo! the first Yahoo! property to integrate social applications written by external, third-party developers.* In 2009, my work with the Yahoo! homepage team helped to boost the "Today" module's click-through rate by 76 percent.** My favorite part about working at Yahoo! was the universally held attitude that any problem is solvable, and that having fun at work is essential.

Web Developer

Advanced Informatics

Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Computer Software industry

August 2006May 2007 (10 months)

In this position I served 70,000+ healthcare students and professionals through my work on Advanced Informatics' E*Value healthcare education software. E*Value exposed me to the efficiency and ease of scale that digitizing previously paper-based processes can yield. Coding at Advanced Informatics meant making the lives of future healthcare workers easier and more streamlined, which was very rewarding work. My pinnacle project at Advanced Informatics was creating a dual-key encryption solution that enabled fast, automatic login via email notifications.

Privately Held; 201-500 employees; Wine and Spirits industry

October 2005July 2006 (10 months)

At Johnson Brothers I developed and maintained internal Web applications for 500+ employees. This position showed me the power of connecting legacy software systems to modern Web interfaces. It also gave me the opportunity to see a highly regulated industry from the inside out. My most noteworthy accomplishment at Johnson Brothers was creating a browser-based mileage tracking application that allowed traveling salespeople to easily manage their year-end taxes.

Web Developer

Mindframe

April 2004March 2005 (1 year)

At Mindframe I created and maintained database-driven Web applications and provided technical support for various companies, organizations, and law firms around the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area. In this position I learned how to design relational databases for websites, experienced the intricacies and importance of data normalization, had the opportunity to implement real-world website security and input validation, and observed the efficiency benefits of a team-shared development methodology with coding conventions. My two favorite projects at Mindframe were 1) creating a cookie-based, client/server-synchronized countdown clock for an online testing application, and 2) Ajaxifying the company website when Ajax was still new and experimental.

Peter Frueh's Honors and Awards

  • Hackday Winner - Best Use of API

    • June 2011

Created a "Prepackaged People Search" plugin using LinkedIn's public People Search API. This plugin allowed third-party sites to predefine/preselect user-toggleable search facets (location, current company, etc.), and pre-filter the initial results via settings that mirrored the API's input parameters -- creating an out-of-the-box, dynamic UI for searching LinkedIn members within a specific context.

  • Hackday Winner - Ready to Ship

    • October 2010

Created a client-side solution for embedding YouTube video shares on LinkedIn. This project was integrated into the production website in December 2010, and became a foundational pattern for additional rich content embedding (e.g. SlideShare presentations).
