I am an online business consultant specialising in the electronic publishing sector. Client assignments tend to be focused around search engine marketing but also include other online media (email, rich media), advertising operations, web strategy, design and usability, as well as website development and hosting. My consulting business is handled via my company Firetop Ltd (est. 2003) of which I am the sole shareholder and employed full-time.
Since inception 6 years ago, Firetop publishing clients have included Nature Publishing Group, BBC Worldwide, Centaur, Wiley, The IET and Harper Collins as well as many non-publishing clients in the travel, antiques, property, training and recruitment industries. I am also retained by William Reed Business Media to manage the web strategy and progress of their retail & manufacturing division.
I started by career 15 years ago in retail management and merchandising with Martins the Newsagents, Tandy, Stylo Barratts Shoes and Partners the Stationers before moving into Life and Pensions for two years with GA Life whilst studying a part-time HNC in business and marketing.
Around 1998 I began working as Marketing Manager for corporate training company Spearhead Training Group, before joining nature.com. I worked full-time at nature.com four times in a number of areas (marketing, web development and advertising) as well as having three full-time roles at William Reed Publishing (marketing and online strategy) and running Firetop Ltd part-time.
