Paulina Boonman's Summary

I worked in PwC Advisory as a Forensic Consultant based out of NYC from Fall 2011 - Winter 2013. In my tenure, I've worked on projects in Port-au-Prince for the Government of Haiti and in St. Louis to assist a large national mortgage servicer in running compliance operations for a government-sanctioned foreclosure review.

Shortly after graduating with High Honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in December 2010, I completed all four parts of the CPA exam. In my undergraduate career, I wrote a paper for my ethics class that was accepted by the Employee Relations Law Journal and published in Fall 2011.

In college, I studied abroad at Rotterdam School of Management in spring of 2009, entering as a marketing major. After working on a consulting-based International Business Project, I spent a summer interning in the marketing department of TomTom B.V. in Amsterdam. The combination of these two experiences drew me towards a consulting-focused career and led me to change my major in Fall 2010.

I speak Spanish, French, and conversational Dutch. I have used self-taught website and design skills in a variety of situations, professional and (mostly) not.

  • Selecting Candidates For Expatriation: Is It Unethical For Companies To Use Gender As A Factor?

    • Employee Relations Law Journal
    Authors: Paulina Boonman

In multinational corporations (MNCs) many managers are sent on expatriate assignments as a crucial component of career advancement. Historically, far fewer women were selected for expatriate assignments than men. Despite the advances in equal employment opportunities for American women afforded by Title VII in the Civil Rights Act of 1964, many foreign countries have conflicting laws or customs that enable or permit discrimination on the basis of gender. Whether legally or ingrained in cultural practices, discrimination negatively impacts women in managerial positions. In today’s workplace, expatriation assignments assign an unfair competitive advantage to men. This article addresses the topic of selecting candidates for expatriation in an MNC and the issue of whether or not it is ethical to factor in a candidate's sex to ensure his or her potential success while maximizing the value of the firm on the assignment.
